SIGIRIYA..

 


The name Sigiriya is believed to have been derived from the word "Sinhagiri".⛰️ In sinhala 'sinha' means lion and 'giri' means rock.🦁So Sigiriya means Lion Rock.✨ In another interpretation 'giri' refers to throat.💫 As the entry staircase to the place lies through the mouth of a majestic lion structure, this may be the understanding of the ancient citizen.🤓 Today two paws of the lionare visible. 

Sigiriya, known as the eight wonder of the world has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1982.😃 Today, it is one of the most visited archeological sites in Sri Lanka.👨‍🔬


Since we have never been to this amazing rock place before, this time we thought of taking a trip to Sigiriya to explore its significance.🙃 It was a Friday in July 2020. We left our home town Kandy around 6 o' clock in the morning by bus and could reach Dambulla by 7.30 a.m.🚌 public transport is available from Dambulla town to Sigiriya but we were lucky enough to have private transport provide by a friend of my father.🤩 As we reached the car park people had already gathered there to purchase entry tickets.🎫 We could see a considerable number of visitors both local and foreign enjoy their early morning walk to the historical palace.🚶🏻🚶‍♀

After that my father purchased three tickets for me my mother and himself. 🎟️We began to walk through the garden city of Sigiriya. Before we start climbing the rock, we came across the vast garden, ponds, canals and fountains.🧗‍♀️ The surrounding was so pleasant and we saw many tourist spending more time there taking photographs.📷 


The main attraction of Sigiriya include the frescoes, the mirror wall and the lion gate. 🥺✨

We had to climb up using a spiral staircase to view the frescoes or apsaras, painted in a cave like gallery. 🤩Some people believe that these paintings are of king's wives while others say that they are women taking part in religious observances, as they carry flowers in their hands.💐

As Sri Lanka we all should be proud of our ancestors work on engineering, landscape architecture, and aesthetic values.😌❤️ Therefore our duty today is protect and conserve this type of native wealth to showcase the Sri Lanka archeological, historical, aesthetic and architectural values to the world.🤓💫

  🌸"Hanthana-katusukonda" is one of the most popular and risky tourist destinations⛰️.And it's one of my favorite place to visit.😍🌸 We went there after the first quarantine curfew had ended😷. We had to use public transport to get there because there was no proper plan.But I personally prefer it😁😍. Somehow it was around 10:30 in the morning when we started our journey. YAHANGALA

  Climbing Yahangala was the most risky journey of my life, but it was a lot of fun.🤩 Yahangal is a more risky destination.😍 But many tourists come to climb it.⛰️ We also eagerly prepared to climb it.💪🏻 It was much easier for us to have it in our area.🌚 I had to go on this trip with a few of my friends.👬👬 It was about 1 pm when we reached the starting point of the journey. 😃It took us about an hour to get close to Yahanagala mountain. ⛰️🙈Later in the night we set off at the foot of Yahanagala, preparing to camp, and set out with our luggage to climb the dangerous section of the mountain.⛺ The weather was good to shut down but the risk did not diminish. 😰But the surroundings are amazingly beautiful.😍 There were a few more difficult places to cross. They are so dangerous that even the slightest mistake can lead to death. 😥 Although I loved to climb mountains, I traveled with trepidation. In the Wilderness 'RAJA GIRI CAVE in Mihinthle```

At the end of a narrow gravel path opposite the Kaludiya Pokuna, off the Jaffna- Mihinthale main road, stands a hillock named "Raja Giri Cave".🪨🍃 The Rajagiri cave appeared tall and solitary above the giant treetops.🌳🍃 The first sight that caught our eyes was the ruins of an image house and a dagoba.🛕 This cave monastery is now declared as an archaeological reserve by the Archaeological Department.🔍📝 The Rajagiri Lena Kanda is made up of a complex of caves.⛰️ According to the Mahavamsa, during the reign of King Saddhatissa, these caves had been inhabited by Kala Buddha Rakhita Thero.🙏🏻🌸The members of Royal family had frequented this sacred land in oder to listen to the thero preach.🤴🏻✨ Another rock inscription found from the premises belonging to 9th century AD shows the Mahayana influence in the latter part of the Anuradhapura period. 🌸💫 The silence that surrounded the environs was remarkable. 💆🏻‍♂️There were steps carved on the rock surface that made our cli...
